Hello! My name is Jen Wakefield, I am the Volunteer Coordinator for IJM Regent Chapter! This position is SUCH a blessing and is something I am very passionate about! If you know me, you know I love community service and advocacy. God has blessed me with a gift and I am using it to the best of my availability! Isn’t it amazing to live in a Country where you can stand up for what is right? You can speak out and say something, you can be that voice for the person who cannot speak for themselves. My friends, that is beautiful!
I am 23 years old originally from Toledo, Ohio. I served 5 years as an air controller in the US Navy. That was such a memorable and amazing experience. Thanks to the Military, I have been to 5 continents with the Navy! The most memorable was Rio De Janeiro, Brazil! I also had the opportunity to serve in Haiti a part of Operation Unified Response.
While in the Navy I attended TCC and volunteered often. Some of the community service I was apart of included: Special Olympics, Court Appointed Special Advocates, YWCA Woman in Crisis, Tidewater Food Bank, and many schools in Hampton Roads.
I am currently an Undergrad Student majoring in Government and pursuing a minor in Journalism. I write for the Daily Runner Regents Student Newspaper and the Student Veterans of America President for the Regent Chapter. I work part-time as an “Islander” as Cheeseburger in Paradise! I love the beachy atmosphere regardless of the weather!
In my free time (the very little I get!) I love to read and watch movies. Spending time with my friends is very important to me. Sadly, all of my family lives 11 hours away so I only see them twice a year! So, my fellow students, and friends are my family in Virginia. I am blessed with such amazing people in my life! God is SO good!
Thank you for reading and I hope to meet you at a upcoming IJM event!
Blessings and hugs, Jen Wakefield
